Step Out Da Door With Ya, 2020Wow, hi friends. We have all did it. Every. Single. One. Of. Us. has survived, maybe not thrived, but we are here to see and tell an ending of a story so magical, that future generations from now will read, and they will just know, this stuff can't be fake. Let's Take A Recap;January 2020, was just like every good month, flying off to Myanmar, getting $5USD tattoos, jumping into hot air balloons and conveying through the sky as if it was a rocketship in the form of a fire breathing dragon. Gazing down upon hundreds, of thousands of old ruins. Pagodas are filled with ancient relics and artifacts of the Bereemese people, who have for decades suffered loss, after political reform and religions revolting (you know, typical, starting 2020 off right vibes). This was a great set up to the the most perfect, and unbeatable, traveling year of my life. Laos, Taiwan and the MaldivesWere in the midst of my always gelled painted hands, when... covid hit, and it hit people hard. And this was after the devastating news of my beloved grandmother passing away in February. Grandma, thank you for every single blessing you have showered upon me from the afterlife. It's because of you and your careful watchful eye over me, that has led me to this spot today. Love you forever grandma, rest in peace. March, 2020. Bangkok, Thailand.Landing back in Thailand after a few days of being back stateside, was a huge, spirit crushing feeling. I was supposed to go back to school, but it had already shut down for the rest of the school year. Trapped inside a tiny, Bangkok apartment would have not been possible if it wasn't for my good Canadian friend, Kayla; a coworker and next door neighbor. To be honest, (sorry for the raw and detailness) but from March to May had a lot of bottles of vodka involved. Surviving while posting the same premade videos for months, while staying in your own home to work, in a different country, which is ruled by a King who has all power and authoritative say, you don't leave the house during the time of the covid. Grocery store trips were so fast, eventually restaurant delivery was my lifestyle. Drunk karaoke, Kayla, painting, teaching, and the pool. Greece, 2020After two hard, beautiful, soul and life changing years abroad in Thailand and the many neighboring countries, lead me to a job in Thessaloniki, Greece. Apartment paid for, transport, visa, all covered. But covid. I had to move to America, jobless. Back To Where It All StartedWith plenty of more twists and turns, almost moving to Dubai, almost taking a job at a daycare, almost moving in with my sister, almost moving to New Zealand, almost going to Bali again, thinking about staying in Thailand for another year while covid settled down, being invited to live in San Diego, I finally landed back in Oregon. & I reconnected with an old flame. Actually, the oldest, my first boyfriend, ever. And I finally got a magical call during a time of hardship on American employment, a teaching position, second grade, on Kauai. One of my most favorite islands on Earth (and I've been to a lot of islands). So off on the road, I had to move again. So Here We Are Now;So here we are now 2020, here is where this year's chapter closes and next years more brighter and beautiful door opens. As I type this, I'm sitting in my favorite brightly colored tie dye sweatshirt, in my upper story house in Kauai. Overlooking the huge extended lanai, with a field or forest if you will, of palm trees. With the wind breezing into my home around me, making the roses petals on the table dance in the breeze, in a dim lit glow from my twinkling Christmas tree behind me, legs stretched out onto a table chair. A cold, white chocolate peppermint mocha with whipped cream to the left of me, and that very same man from my past ten years ago to the right of me. Working already from home, which his tech company approved him of doing. We've only lived together a few days yet, he's using his 27inch computer monitor as a makeshift TV before ours arrives. But he's currently hard at work, doing overtime on vacation. Candles are lit around our two story home and even though it was 2020, somehow I feel as if I finally made it. My hard work lead me here. And although it took awhile to get to, to become the best version of me, to have a clear passion for my job, before developing who adult Kayla is, who I am, and who I want to be. Sitting happily and comfortably, knowing I did this all by myself. With the help of someone who shows, and acts like he truly loves me. And I think he's loved me since he's first met met me, and we just happened to come back together, due to covid. Keep Love and Aloha In Your Hearts During 2021As a new year unfolds before us, let's remember to walk into it with gratitude and thankfulness to where we are today. Look around you, consider your loved ones, your dearest friends, and the clean air and earth around you. Be mindful of others who are struggling during the holidays, in our generations first ever, tragic time of need. Be kind to everyone, share your love, light, and wisdom on those around you this holiday season. 6 feet apart, of course, (unless the vaccine doesn't end up turning people green😉).
Share, spread, live with Aloha, may 2021 grant all the wishes we had to postpone over this last, life changing year.
